It refers to the finished steel with various section shapes bent by steel plate or strip steel in cold state. Cold formed section steel is a kind of economic light-weight thin-walled steel, also known as steel cold-formed sections or cold-formed sections.
Cold formed section steel is the main material for making light steel structure. It has all kinds of very thin, reasonable and complex cross section which can not be produced by hot rolling. Compared with hot-rolled section steel, under the same section area, the turning radius can be increased by 50-60%, the section moment of inertia can be increased by 0.5-3.0 times, so the material strength can be reasonably utilized; compared with ordinary steel structure (i.e. the steel structure made of traditional I-beam, channel steel, angle steel and steel plate), the steel can be saved by about 30-50%. In some cases, the steel consumption of cold-formed steel structure is equivalent to that of reinforced concrete structure under the same conditions, which is a kind of economic section steel.
The material of cold-formed section steel is generally carbon structural steel and low alloy structural steel, but also atmospheric corrosion-resistant steel and stainless steel. Cold formed section steel is divided into open section steel, semi closed section steel and closed section steel. The varieties used for building structure include angle steel, channel steel, cap steel, Z steel and other special steel, etc.
Cold-formed section steel is a kind of section steel which is made of hot-rolled or cold-rolled strip by bending. Cold formed section steel has the following characteristics:
1. The section is economical and reasonable, saving materials. The section shape of cold-formed section steel can be designed according to the needs, the structure is reasonable, and the section coefficient per unit weight is higher than that of hot-rolled section steel. Under the same load, it can reduce the weight of components and save materials. Compared with hot-rolled section steel, cold-formed section steel can save 38-50% metal in building structure and 15-60% metal in agricultural machinery and vehicles. It is convenient for construction and reduces comprehensive cost.
2. There are many kinds of cold-formed sections with uniform wall thickness and complex section shape, which are difficult to be produced by general hot rolling method.
3. The surface of the product is smooth, the appearance is good, the size is accurate, and the length can also be adjusted flexibly according to the needs, all of which are supplied according to the fixed length or multiple length, so as to improve the utilization rate of materials.
4. It can also cooperate with punching and other processes in production to meet different needs.
